Marion Barry hates gay people. Okay, well maybe he does not hate gay people but he certainly doesn’t feel gay couples deserve the right to get married.  When defending his vote against DC recognizing gay marriages performed in other states, Mr. Barry claimed that “blacks adamantly oppose it.”  So what, Mr. Barry!  Caucasian-Americans adamantly opposed freedom for slaves up until 1865.  And even after 1865, when the Civil War was over, caucasians still “adamantly opposed” giving basic civil rights to african americans.  Just because a large group adamantly opposes something doesn’t mean that group is right.  No, I don’t believe Marion Barry hates gay people.  Perhaps in the privacy of his bedroom when he looks in the mirror, he genuinely has no problem with gays being able to walk down the aisle, say their “I do’s” and raise their families like their heterosexual counterparts.   As Howard Stern recently said, “What’s the big deal?”  The problem is this:  Marion Barry does not have the courage to go against what the majority wants,   so yesterday he was the one and only vote AGAINST the city of Washington, D.C. legally recognizing gay marriages. Shame on you Mr. Barry!!!! Shame on you!

Now white males are feeling it — the pain and suffering of an unjust world.  Finding a job.  Making decent wages. White men, by majority, could take these things for granted in the past.  But these are tough economic times today, and no one is immune to hardship.  That includes a large percentage of white males coming out of ivy league schools with top grades and an eye toward making money fast and quick.    For them, the steel door to employment is not opening as quickly as it used to.  In these perilous times, pain and suffering do not discriminate.   One could safely argue that white men have been running this country into the ground since they massacred the Native Americans.  Ofcourse you won’t hear it described this way in school textbooks, but history has shown that the white man’s greed and treachery has led to an unequal balance of power and wealth in this  country. So now, white men are feeling the heat, and it’s about time.

I can’t take it. I am at my wit’s end.   Another man in Maryland has killed himself and his family.  I understand depression. I get it. I’m sympathetic. Truly.

Suicide Stinks

But if  you are that  severely depressed and you want to kill yourself — kill yourself! That means You. Only You.  Not your newborn. Not the woman you walked down the aisle with on your wedding day, and have slept beside for the past ten years.  Not the post office guy delivering mail who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I mean - YOU. There is no WE in YOU. I don’t understand why depressed people feel they have a right to wipe out the entire family!!!    I can’t understand how depressed people reason with themselves that going into a mall and shooting innocent people before taking their own lives makes good sense.  These things are as puzzling as George Bush having a two term presidency.  I have read that depressed people are lost souls who deserve some measure of compassion and forgiveness.    Maybe this is true. Maybe if I were standing at the foot of God, the ONE who forgives everyone for their sins, my heart would soften and I would admit that even these desperate souls deserve forgiveness too, but  at this moment, as I throw across a room another newspaper telling of the tragic suicide of a man who went into his children’s bedroom and slit their throats before killing himself and his wife, I can not tap into those warm feelings of compassion and forgiveness. I am too upset. Check back in a few hours.
